Care Savings
Care funding, in plain English
Start with your country and care setting.
England: the usual upper capital limit is £23,250; the lower limit is £14,250. Wales: the capital limit is £50,000 for residential care and £24,000 for care at home. Income, care needs and the council’s assessment also affect what you pay.
Your home is not always counted. Its treatment depends on the care setting, who lives there and any property disregard. The calculator keeps property equity separate from cash.
Wales’ £100 weekly maximum concerns council-arranged non-residential care. It does not cap a private home-care agency’s invoice.
Ask your local council for a care-needs assessment and a financial assessment before funds become low. NHS Continuing Healthcare has a separate health-based eligibility process.
About this site: created by Ben Slater, social worker and director of Nellie Supports. It offers general information and estimates for England and Wales, not individual financial, legal or care advice.
Rules checked on 2 October 2026. See the official sources linked in the calculator. Use a real provider quote for prices. The calculator does not guarantee funding or recommend selling a home.
