About Care Savings
Our purpose and responsibility
Care Savings helps adults and families in England and Wales organise the practical questions behind paying for care. The calculator and guides are a starting point for a clearer conversation with a council, care provider or adviser, not a substitute for their assessment.
Who created this site?
Care Savings was created by Ben Slater, a social worker and director of Nellie Supports. His role is identified so readers know who is behind the site and where to raise a factual concern. This does not mean that every estimate has been independently reviewed or professionally certified.
What the calculator is for
Care decisions often involve several different figures: the provider’s price, available cash, property equity, income and the amount a council has agreed to fund. The calculator keeps these questions distinct. It helps you explore a possible funding route, estimate a personal contribution and consider a separate private-pay savings projection using your own figures.
Choose the country and care setting carefully. An estimate for one country or setting should not be applied to another. Possible benefits are suggestions to check, not awards to add to confirmed income.
How to check an explanation
Our care-funding guides link to official sources and identify their scope and source-check dates. Read the relevant England or Wales guide alongside the public methodology and calculator disclaimer. Source checks are evidence checks; they are not a claim of human or professional approval.
Rules, personal circumstances and a council’s assessment can change. Before acting on an estimate, check the current official guidance and ask the responsible organisation for a written decision. The site does not provide regulated financial advice or recommend selling a home.
Report a factual error
Email nellie@nelliesupports.com with the page address, the point you believe is incorrect and a link to the relevant official source. Please do not send private care records, bank statements or another person’s personal information. This contact route is for site feedback, not an application for council funding or a benefits claim.
Using the site
Start with the care cost calculator, then read the guides and methodology before interpreting a result. Our accessibility statement explains the current testing limits and how to report a problem. The privacy and cookie notice describes the current public information and matters still being verified.
The Care Savings editorial team
Care Savings is an independent resource, operated by Ben Slater in a personal capacity. The editorial team byline identifies this website's publishing responsibility; it is not a claim that an independent panel has reviewed the guidance. Ben's professional role explains who created the site without making the calculator a substitute for a council or NHS assessment.
Automated tools assist with drafting and factual checks. Our editorial standards explain the difference between a source check, publication authority and completed professional review. The source register identifies the primary evidence and current caveats. No independent professional sign-off is recorded for this replacement.
A practical next step
If you need an individual decision, ask for written care-needs and financial assessments. Use the GOV.UK council finder to reach your council. Keep the quote, confirmed income, property circumstances and questions about disregards together. Do not wait for an online estimate to resolve an urgent care need.
