Official sources, with their limits.
Care funding depends on the country, the care setting and the individual assessment. These are the primary sources used by our guides.

Two important date cautions
England's statutory guidance is under review and includes older examples. Wales' December 2025 code does not yet reflect all 2026 amendments. Use the current annual circular and current Welsh charging guidance for current figures.
England
England: social-care charging 2026/27
Sections checked: Capital limits; personal expenses allowance; minimum income guarantee
The usual capital limits remain £14,250 and £23,250 after disregards. The care-home personal expenses allowance is £31.80. Home-care income protection is different; councils may set higher non-residential capital limits.
Keep in mind: These figures do not decide care eligibility, the agreed package or an individual charge.

England
England: Care and support statutory guidance
Sections checked: Chapter 8; Annexes B and C
Assessable income, capital disregards, the person's beneficial property interest and protected living costs matter. Private-care budgeting is separate from a council's assessment.
Keep in mind: The guidance is under review and contains older example figures. Use the current annual circular for current rates; do not infer that every chapter has been updated.

England
England: statutory capital disregards
Sections checked: Schedule 2, paragraphs 1–6 and 24
Temporary residence, qualifying occupiers, time-limited property protection and discretionary disregards have specific conditions. A home is not automatically assessed or automatically excluded because someone owns it.
Keep in mind: The council must apply the relevant conditions to the individual's circumstances.

Wales
Wales: charging for social care
Sections checked: Non-residential care; residential care
Welsh guidance gives capital limits of £50,000 for residential care and £24,000 for non-residential care, with the occupied home excluded for non-residential care. It gives a £100 maximum weekly council non-residential charge and £46.35 retained residential income.
Keep in mind: The £100 maximum does not cap a private agency invoice. An income contribution can remain below the residential capital limit.

Wales
Wales: charging and financial-assessment code
Sections checked: Annex A capital/property; Annex B income; Annex D deferred payments
The code distinguishes property disregards, conditional 12-week protection, non-residential income protection and repayable deferred payments. Capital at or below the appropriate Welsh limit is disregarded; England's tariff should not be imported.
Keep in mind: The landing page warns that this December 2025 PDF does not yet reflect 2026 amendments. Current Welsh guidance takes precedence for current monetary amounts.

Wales
Wales: current status of the charging code
Sections checked: Details
The official landing page retains its warning about 2026 regulation amendments not yet reflected in the published code.
Keep in mind: The PDF's date is not proof that all its rates are current.

England and Wales
Attendance Allowance: eligibility
Sections checked: Eligibility; care homes
Pension age, qualifying help or supervision, duration, residence and overlapping-benefit conditions apply. Fully self-paying care-home residents can claim if eligible; council-paid placements usually cannot receive it.
Keep in mind: An eligibility check is not an award. Do not add a possible benefit to confirmed income.

England and Wales
Pension Credit: eligibility
Sections checked: Partner; income; savings and investments
Age, residence and household conditions apply. Savings up to £10,000 do not affect Pension Credit; above that, DWP assumed-income rules apply. Attendance Allowance is excluded as income.
Keep in mind: Pension Credit's savings test is different from care-charging tariff income.

England
England: NHS continuing healthcare
Sections checked: Eligibility; assessments
CHC is a separate NHS assessment of health needs. A diagnosis, a checklist referral or a capital threshold does not determine entitlement.
Keep in mind: The calculator does not conduct an NHS assessment or make a referral.
Automated source check: 20 October 2026.
Wales
Wales: continuing NHS healthcare
Sections checked: What CHC is; who funds what
A local health board assesses whether a person has a primary health need. NHS responsibilities and personal living costs depend on the setting and assessed package.
Keep in mind: Welsh CHC information must not be replaced with an English assessment route.
